The response to last week’s webinars was fantastic. Hundreds of Amateur Radio Operators attended and learned how Depiction mapping software filled their disaster response and planning needs. One person, who attended both webinars, wrote during the webinar “Thank you for making the webinar interesting enough for me to participate both days, and expect to review them from your archive again. Each time I take away more valuable information.”

The response has been so impressive, that Kim Buike and I will be presenting the webinar again, live, TOMORROW, Thursday, October 29 at 2 PM EDT/11 AM PDT. In fact, we’re turning this into an entire webinar series that we will be presenting weekly. You can read the news release (pdf) for more information.

We hope that you and the members of your club will find this information valuable. Additionally, if your club would be interested in a custom regional webinar to see how you could make use of Depiction, please contact me.

Our next meeting is this Saturday, Panera Bread, Redmond Way and Bear Creek Crossing, near the 520/Avondale Rd. overpass.

We have added one member since our last meeting, plus we have invited two potential new members to join us this Saturday.

As outlined in my last message, we are in the middle of the Fall contesting period. Although 20 M and up has been lousy, DX is workable on 160M. The other night while my noise floor was low, worked 5 countries, including 3 in Europe. Also, the Midway expedition is now on the air.

Agenda:
1. Around the table, introductions and your radio activities in the previous month or so.
Question: What are my plans for the ARRL SS CW/SSB events for November?

2. Announce our Early Winter and Holiday Party, scheduled for Tuesday, Dec 29.

3. What is the next RTKCC hosted Multi-Operator operating event? How about:
a. November CW sweepstakes, Nov 7-8
b. November SSB sweepstakes, Nov 21-22
c. ARRL 160M CW contest, Dec 4-6 (RTKCC has placed well in this event many times)
d. ARRL 10M CW/SSB contest, Dec 12-13 (RTKCC topped the local club category one year)
e. ARRL RTTY Roundup, Jan 2-3.

4. Update on the N9ACE Radio estate.

5. November meeting scheduled for Saturday, November 21, weekend before Thanksgiving, SS/SSB weekend.

Hope to see you again this Saturday.

Robert Gould Dennison  AB7CF

October 3, 1940 - June 16, 2009

Biography

Robert Gould Dennison beloved husband of Mary Dennison passed away at their family home after a valiant battle with cancer. Rob fought this disease as he had faced every challenge in his life, with determination, dignity and grace.

Rob was born October 3, 1940 to Herschel and Bernice Dennison in Ventura, California. He grew up on the family citrus ranch with brothers Michael and Don. He had a wonderful boyhood spending hours at play in the orange groves shaping him into a man who loved the outdoors.

Rob attended UCLA, where he earned his engineering degree. He left Southern California and moved to Seattle in 1965. After completing his Masters degree in electrical engineering at the University of Washington, Rob joined the Boeing Company where he spent his professional career until he retired in 2003. After numerous engineering assignments in aerospace research and development he was promoted into management. He then guided and managed research efforts as well as represented the company with national technical committees. Rob’s intense interest in technology advancement served him well throughout his professional career.

In July 2002 Rob moved to the Long Beach Peninsula where, in his words, “Life really began”. He and Mary joined their lives together after a beautiful two-year courtship. Rob found Mary later in life, yet it was a love of a lifetime. It was the joy of his life to move to this community and be so deeply in love.

Rob integrated himself into Mary’s family easily, shouldering responsibilities and sheltering each family member. He gave his all without reserve and won the hearts of extended family and friends. He was a peacemaker and a man who listened and demonstrated his honesty, integrity and devotion.

To experience the family life and be a grandfather lovingly known as “Bonka” was a great reward in Rob’s life. He had no children of his own but became the ultimate family man, entertaining us with his sense of humor and wit.

Rob had many passions and hobbies. He was an avid backpacker and cherished his time in solitude. He loved fishing and spending quiet hours on a lake in the canoe.

Rob had a huge passion for HAM radio and he participated in the local amateur radio club here on the Peninsula. He had a desire for local youth to become involved, and a memorial fund has been established for that purpose.

Rob loved and served our community with tireless enthusiasm, kindness and fairness. He served the Boys and Girls Club with his computer expertise, volunteered with the Water Music Festival for five years and was active on the Planning Commission board. He always extended himself to offer his help and ideas.

Rob lived and walked his faith in Christ, always treating people equally. He was a wonderful role model and left a legacy of love for us all.

He is survived by his beloved wife Mary, brothers Michael Dennison, Don Dennison, stepchildren Ethan, Emilie and husband Reese, Martin and Thomas and grandchildren Asher and Audrey.

We will love and hold you in our hearts forever.

A memorial will held for Rob at the Inn at Harbour Village in Ilwaco, WA on Thursday, June 25th, at 2:00 pm.

In lieu of flowers please make donations to:

Well, time to update the site’s K3 section.  There are now four K3 owners, W7QC, W9HXM, W7FU and me.  I understand that there may be a 5th sooner than later.

The SN for Steve’s K3 is 35.  Mine is 2757.  In that time the wait period between order and receipt has changed a lot!  Steve wait just a little over 6 months.  I ordered my on a Saturday night via the Elecraft Web site and the K3 arrived on the following Thursday.

I didn’t think I would be able to get to it for 2 to 3 week, but thought I should at least inventory the parts.  Once everything was spread out I decided to at least put one thing together.  Big mistake!  By the following Saturday I had made QSO!  So less than a week for order to use.  And the build was relaxing and enjoyable.  Only made one easily corrected faux-pas.

I am really enjoying the rig whenever I get a chance to use it.

At the last club meeting I was having fun with a pun - adding a 3 after the K in RTKCC.  Sort of a sub-club.  Here’s he badge that grew out of that bit of fun.
